Leading toymaker Bandai Co. said it will release "The Rose of Versailles"-themed collagen drinks in September.

The "Rose of Versailles Collagen Drink" series will be available Sept. 7 at retailers, convenience stores and other stores across the country. A three-bottle set will be priced at 882 yen ($11).

The rose and peach-flavored drinks will contain 5,000 milligrams of low molecular fish collagen, in addition to hyaluronic acid, royal jelly, rose hip extract and vitamin B6.

"The Rose of Versailles" is a classic "shojo" manga for girls created by Riyoko Ikeda. It started running in 1972 in the Margaret weekly comic magazine.

The manga was adapted into a Takarazuka Revue Co.'s musical in 1974, which was directed by Kazuo Hasegawa and instantly became a long-running hit.

An anime adaptation premiered in 1979 and became one of representative works of director Osamu Dezaki, who took the helm of the latter half of the series.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the manga's serialization, a special art exhibition will start from Sept. 13 at the Matsuya Ginza department store in Tokyo.

"The Rose of Versailles" strikes a particular chord with female customers.

Bandai has released many product tie-ins featuring characters from "Lupin the Third," "Urusei Yatsura," "Nodame Cantabile" and other familiar titles under its beauty brand Creer Beaute.

The brand also features other beauty products, including eyeliner, mascara and facial packs with characters from the manga series.
