"Ninja Scroll" helped catapult Japanese anime into the international limelight with its powerful imagery after it was theatrically released in 1993. It is one anime title that is more widely known overseas than in Japan. The anime earned widespread respect from creators across the globe, and ignited the Japanese anime boom in the United States in the 1990s.
It is also widely known that "The Matrix" directors Andy and Larry Wachowski gave high praise to "Ninja Scroll."
The anime was produced by Japan's leading anime studio Madhouse Inc., which has created many high-quality titles.
Set in the early Edo Period (1603-1867), the story follows Kibagami Jubei, an outcast ninja who is thrown into fierce battles against powerful enemy ninja.
